Abstract

Objective: Design and analysis of a Planar filtenna to operate in X and Ku band communication systems. Methods/Analysis: The design of the filter consisting of planar metallic structure on the top side and a defected ground type structure on another side of the substrate. A substrate material is integrated with vias at the bottom part of the designed structure. The simulation results of the designed filtenna are carried with commercial electromagnetic tool HFSS and all the filtenna radiation characteristics are presented in this work. Findings: A substrate integrated waveguide filter is used in this model for RF channel selection as well as a balun. The proposed filtenna occupies a compact dimension of 12x35.5x1.6 mm. Novelty/Improvement: Planar structures with substrate integrated vias are acting as electromagnetic band gap structures in the current design. The surface wave related losses will be suppressed with this novel structure. Microstrip line feeding with 50 ohm impedance and easy integration are making this model suitable for multiband communication applications.

Abstract

Objective: Design with analysis of a new low profile co-planar waveguide fed antenna generally suitable to reduce polarization diversity problems in dual band applications is addressed in this work. Methods/Analysis: The designed antenna consisting of two similar monopoles that are been printed on a low loss substrate material with 3mm spacing and placed perpendicular to one another. H-shaped slots are placed on the ground plane as defected ground structure. Multiple input multiple output technology is incorporated to reduce the polarization diversity in the current structure. HFSS tool is used to model and simulate the proposed antenna model. Findings: In this paper, four models have been proposed and their S-parameters have been compared along with their gain. To enhance the gain characteristics of the proposed models, H-Shaped slots have been incorporated. The experimental result of the proposed Ultra wideband antenna of Model 4 is in good correlation with the simulated results from HFSS. Novelty/Improvement: Coplanar wave guide fed MIMO antenna is designed in this work. U-shaped radiating elements are used in the design with proper impedance matching of fifty ohms at the feed point. An H-Shaped slot placed on the ground plane will improve the proper impedance matching characteristics and radiation characteristics of the antenna.

Abstract

Objective: To design a compact multiband antenna with planar metamaterial unit cell loading in the ground structure. Methods/Analysis: The metamaterial unit cells are placed on the ground structure of the proposed antenna with complimentary split-ring resonator slots. The proposed metamaterial antenna describes that an increase in the series-capacitance value may degrade to the half-wave length resonating frequency which will reduce the electrical dimension of the proposing antenna. The TM01 mode will be propagated around the complimentary split-ring resonator slot on the ground plane. Findings: Split ring resonator structure in the ground plane is serving as metamaterial and the permittivity of the substrate came down to negative with the current model. Multiband behaviour of the antenna at corresponding frequencies shows the change in permittivity. Novelty/Improvement: Novel structure of SRR on the ground plane is behaving like defected ground structure in one way and responsible for multiband characteristics. The proposed antenna occupying the dimensions of 40 x 35 x 1.6 mm with hybridization of TM10 and TM01 mode.

Abstract

Objectives: To design high bandwidth and high gain compact antipodal Vivaldi antenna which can be applied for modern communication systems especially for military communication systems. Methods/Analysis: Antipodal Vivaldi antenna is designed with flared elements on both sides of the substrate. Top side patch element is oriented towards left side and bottom side defected ground structured element is oriented towards right side. Finite element method based HFSS-15 is used in the design and simulation. The simulated EM-Results of the return loss, VSWR, radiation patterns and field distributions are analyzed and optimized antipodal vivaldi antenna is designed with parametric analysis. Fire resistance PCB substrate material with dielectric constant 4.4 is used as substrate to prototype the antenna model and measured results are analyzed for validation on ZNB 20 vector network analyzer. Findings: In this work a novel antipodal Vivaldi antenna is designed to operate between L to KU-band communication and applications. The proposed antenna modal consisting of a special type of tapered slot edge structure in the design which enhanced the bandwidth of the antenna. To convert antenna into a wide band model, some modifications are done by placing slotted sections on the ground and patch elements. Antenna is showing 15 GHz huge bandwidth and impedance bandwidth of more than 65%. The proposed antenna is showing VSWR of 2:1 ratio in the operating band and peak realized gain of 7 dB. Omni directional radiation pattern with peak directivity of 5 dB is attained with the current model. Wideband characteristics with considerable gain grouping this antenna in to several communication applications in S, C, X, Ku-bands. Novelty/Improvement: Novelty with respect to defected ground structured flared element and huge bandwidth are advancements in the current design. Both patch and ground structures are designed in a way to enhance the bandwidth as well as gain which is advantageous in communication applications. Field distributions with excellent radiation characteristics are making this model as suitable candidate for future communication systems.

Abstract

A Multiband vivaldi antenna is designed to operate in the X and Ku bands and simulational results are presented in this paper. Along with the ultrawide band, this particular vivaldi antenna is working in the range between 7 to 20 GHz at different resonent frequencies. Gain of more than 9dB and bandwidth enhancement of 0.92% can be achieved using this model. All the antenna parameters including design considerations and field distributions are presented in this paper.

Abstract

There are many applications in wireless communication that involve more than one distinct band of frequencies. The present model is a square patch array of 16×16 i.e. 256 elements arranged on the FR4 epoxy substrate material. Dual polarization is obtained at 8 and 13 GHz frequency with return loss of -11.75 dB and -18.90 dB. The gain obtained from the current model is 22 dB. The present work involved the designing of array patch antenna and simulation of the model with Ansoft HFSS. All the output parameters, radiation patterns, axial ratio and directivity are presented in this paper.
